    PRODUCTS & ADVICE

Yes. Everything we sell for use on skin is cosmetic-grade face paint, made with pigments approved for skin contact, and every product carries a full ingredient list with a CI number beside each colour.

That's the test you can apply to any face paint anywhere: if there's no ingredient list, don't put it on a child. And "non-toxic" on a craft paint means non-toxic if swallowed - which is a completely different standard from being safe on skin.

If there's any history of sensitivity, patch test first: a dot on the inner forearm, left for 20 minutes, ideally the day before rather than at the event. Don't paint over eczema, cold sores, sunburn or broken skin, and always use clean brushes and fresh water.

A split cake or a small palette, one or two round brushes, a sponge, and water. That's genuinely it.

You don't need an airbrush, and you don't need a large palette until you know which colours you actually reach for. Tell us what you're painting and what you'd like to spend, and we'll put a starter list together - we'd rather you bought the right four things than the wrong twelve.

That's most of what we do. Bring a photo of the look you're after, or just describe the job - a school gala, a stage show, a zombie for Halloween - and we'll tell you what you need and, just as often, what you don't.

We colour-match, we'll talk you out of the expensive option when the cheaper one works better, and we'll tell you honestly if we don't stock the right thing. Come into the Morningside store, call 0800 263 939, or email shop@bodyfx.co.nz.

Professional. We carry TAG Body Art, Fusion Body Art, Mehron and our own BODYFX range - the paints that working face and body artists, film and theatre actually use. We use them ourselves.

    We don't stock craft paint.

Yes - through our sister store LENSFX, which carries New Zealand's widest range of costume and cosplay contact lenses. Same team, same Morningside base.

    SERVICES

Yes. FX parties run in our workshop space at 10 Collins Street, led by our FX artists. Kids learn special effects makeup and prosthetics and walk out having made something properly impressive.

$299 for up to 8 children, around 1.5 hours. Extra children are $35 each, which extends the session to about 2 hours. Hair updos can be added at $20 per person.

Best suited to ages 8-16. Fair warning: the Gory FX party is realistic enough that some kids get pleasantly grossed out. To book, email shop@bodyfx.co.nz and tell us which theme you're after.

Yes. Our beginner face painting and one-stroke workshops are $110 each and usually run on a Sunday at our Morningside studio. We also run special effects and moulage classes.

We schedule by demand rather than a fixed calendar - register your interest and we'll set a date once there are enough people. That keeps classes small enough for everyone to get proper hands-on time.

Complete beginners are welcome, and are most of who comes.

No. We're an Auckland company, and all our workshops run from our Morningside studio.

We no longer offer one-on-ones or group workshops in Wellington. Myrthe has relocated to Auckland, so those have finished. We don't have a retail store in Wellington, or anywhere else in New Zealand outside Morningside.

BODYFX started in Wellington before we moved north, which is why so many of our customers are still down there. These days we look after them by courier: order before 2pm and it's usually with you in two to three days, with free shipping on orders over $80.
